We brought in Zac, 3D game development student, to see how he would use SpaceDraft to develop and pitch his game concept.

Developing a video game experience is an enduring journey that requires significant planning and production skills. SpaceDraft is an invaluable tool for documenting and communicating all of the information needed to develop a successful video game pitch or product.

SpaceDraft can be used to draft and present game concepts in a dynamic and visual way.  Game designers can use SpaceDraft to more effectively convey how mechanics, narratives and design elements come together to form gameplay experiences. With easy methods for sharing and playback, information can be dispersed to clients and within development teams with ease.

Reading this case study, you will learn how SpaceDraft can be used to…

Illustrate complex game ideas and mechanics in a digestible way.
Convey a designer’s intention through effective visuals.
Communicate a story to enhance the overall narrative.

Existing Challenges

Developing within the video game market is an arduous task that can seem impossible without the correct tools. Being able to augment arguably the most important stage of development (planning) builds a stable foundation from which a successful project can grow.

To reduce the chances of an ineffectual product, a few key factors need to be satisfied.

  • Hooking audiences with effective pitches and engaging visuals.
  • Communicating and demonstrating the essence of the game’s narrative and design.
  • Cleanly illustrate the intended gameplay loop and mechanics.
  • Identify and deconstruct competition material in a constructive manner.
  • Document internal production goals, timelines and methodologies.

These listed factors are not all that’s required to plan a successful game product, but they are some of the most important aspects to consider when developing a video game pitch or plan.

SpaceDraft gives game designers and developers the tools to effectively communicate their ideas effectively in a format that remains simple to navigate, develop and share.

SpaceDraft’s visualisation tools allow for the creation of inspiring imagery that hooks audiences as well as the capacity to communicate complex narratives, share development solutions and present market research to clients and team members.

By adopting SpaceDraft, designers can streamline the planning stage of any project within the video game development market.

Digestible formats

Information can be easily accumulated within SpaceDraft documents. Utilising pre-built templates to quickly and effectively convey your ideas.

Use of animations

Utilising a mixture of simple and complex animations, designers use SpaceDraft to convey information in a more dynamic way than uninspired illustrations and large information dumps.

Efficient shareability

Being able to quickly share and develop SpaceDrafts, allow for vital information to be communicated in a timely manner.

Having effective documentation which can be easily referenced throughout the development, deployment or reflection stages of building a game is important for success within the industry.

Instead of relying on a convoluted mess of working documents, pitch decks and design briefs that take longer to understand than to create, SpaceDrafts communicate the same information faster and more effective than traditional methods. Reducing the time spent understanding the details of a project frees up more time to spend developing and bringing ideas to life.

Using SpaceDraft to communicate ideas saves valuable time which can be spent creating those same ideas.
